Firestorm donates Charlotte Gyllenhammar’s Hang to the Stockholm School of Economics

March 20, 2026

Firestorm Foundation is proud to donate Charlotte Gyllenhammar’s Hang (2011) to the Stockholm School of Economics, where it now forms part of the school’s permanent collection.

With its placement in the entrance hall at Sveavägen 65, the video installation Hang will be displayed from January through June each year, before giving way to Gyllenhammar’s Disobedience (1997) from July through December. Together, the two works create a seasonal clock at the heart of the school, changing with the rhythm of the year.

In both works, Gyllenhammar depicts a woman hanging upside down, her head directed towards the camera while the lower part of her body disappears beneath flowing skirts. Inversion is a recurring and deeply personal thread throughout Gyllenhammar’s practice. By turning the familiar upside down, she shifts our perspective and invites us to consider vulnerability, discomfort and the act of looking itself.

“When I changed perspective and filmed the hanging woman from below, I was able to show her and protect her at the same time.”
— Charlotte Gyllenhammar

We are proud to see Hang in this prominent position at the school, where Gyllenhammar’s work will be encountered by students, faculty and visitors every day.
